GingerBread Capital’s Ita Ekpoudom has been named one of 19 “Women to Watch in 2019” by Women & Wealth Magazine.

Ita joined GBC as Partner in July 2018 after four years of heading her own advisory and consulting firm, Tigress Ventures. She was also a venture partner with Plum Alley, had stints at American Express and TravelClick, and started her career at Goldman Sachs. And did we mention? Ita spent her undergraduate years at Princeton and has an MBA from Wharton.

It’s always been clear to us, as it is to anyone who meets her, that Ita is a superstar (as well as a warm, caring, fun person to be around!), and we’re thrilled to see her included with the other awesome women – founders, investors, artists and activists – on Women & Wealth‘s list. Crunchbase also included Ita in its recent roundup of 39 African-American women in VC who are making strides in closing the venture capital industry’s (gaping) racial and gender gap.

Only 3% of VCs are black and 1% are Latinx, in an industry where female VCs of any background represent just 18% of the total.

“Despite the dismal diversity numbers,” writes Crunchbase‘s  Jeremy Brown, “there are black women in VC [like Ita] who are inspiring a new wave of investors.” Read the full article.

"The dearth of capital flowing to female founders and in the hands of female investors can also be seen as our industry's biggest opportunity areas."
