What happens when women founders pitch to a roomful of women?
New York Times reporter Sheila Marikar (@SheilaYM) set out to answer that question when she stopped by The Wing in Soho one freezing night this past January for the Wingable Pitch Night. She joined 275 other women who gathered in the work/community space’s airy loft to hear pitches from 10 female founders hoping to woo the potential investors in the room– all of whom were also women, and many who came with their checkbooks open.
It looked and felt a lot different than the typical male-dominated VC pitch event, Marikar concluded after talking with GingerBread Capital CEO Linnea Roberts and others.
“All women need is a bit of a lesson, contacts and then they need to come to amazing [events] like this,” Linnea observed, adding: “Guys would never do an event like this.”
